Creadits in livetype

these are the credits which I created to use in our film
the font is called Walkway
the one which i made before want very good because the font size was too small adn it didn't stood out so no one could read it so i changed the font and made it have a shadow. in our actual film i moved the tiles around on dark colors in our scene so it would be easer to read

We created a institutional logo for our production company. Our logo represents a new generation of film makers.

Things we use to make up our logo

Short Story board

I made this story board by scanning in the drawings which minyee drew and then i editing them in imovie and put sound effects over it like the gun shot.
Past students' work 'SIMON SAYS'

simon says is different from out film opening because thay used an already existing logo company which is universal in our case we are making out own logo called new moon productions and we are making our own music and we could use other people's music as long as it doesn.t have a copy right. in the beginig of the openning sequence all we saw ware shots of things in the dark room with red lighting and in some of hte shots there were shadows of perople in the shots we then cut to a vague red title in red with blank screen then there is a jump cut of a flat and the camera is cantedof a sudden there is loude music and people dancing then the music contenued through out the sequence even when we are not near the music. what they could have done eas made teh music quieter so we know that we are some where els. some of the closeup shots are quiet nice but when the girl vomits it looks very fake. as aaudience I had no idea what was going on. it rose lots of question perhaps that is what they were trying to do. I thing it got a C because of some lazt filming and editing.

past students' work 'THE GARDNER'

this one is also uses othe companies logo it uses univeral our one is the logo which we made called new moon production the begining has noce strong shots bt the thitles could have been better rather then in a black screen with white new times roman title and the cast was better because it was'nt on black but it was in red and the font liiked very wierd. we saw a nice opening of woodes long shot showing us the location. I think that the shot of when the man was tring to tune the radio could have been more tighter but it was OK. they clearly showed the genre by one of the conventions which is moving shots not still shots that was very effective. the POV of the man I think could have been still they went over board with moving shots. the music was nice telling us false genre but it got annoying afterwords with going on and on and on. we see the man picking pu the gardning fork then it randomly cuts to him hamaring a nail. there was a nice graphic match if the rose and nice dawn scean with low angle of the gardner. that had the oprtunity of having enigma codes and both times they blew it away. first we knew that she was going to bump into a tree they gave it away by showng us the shot from the front. second time she delibrtly runes in ot a log which did'nt even look natural it was like it was'nt ment to be ther all this gives away what she is going to do next. I think this student should get a B because if good filming skills but few bits let them down.

Prelim task

Our brief was to create a mini thriller showing the understanding of the following:
  1. MATCH ON ACTION: we used match on action when minyee walks in and shoun is watching her and we see minyee sitting on the chair.
  2. 108 DEGREE RLUE: the camera does not cross the 180 line whilst they are having a conversation.
  3. SHOT REVERSE SHOT:is when when we see minyee and shoun's face when they are having a conversation.
Flight plan

I like this opening sequence a lot because it clearly tells the genre of the film with in my opinion very important, before an audience watch a film they should know what kind of film it is they might not like the genre of the film which they about to watch. but if the aim was to miss lead their audience thinking its a different genre then its a different story. i especially like how the titles come up and go as the train passes by. the location shows that the thriller is set in a normal place on a train station this if one of the conventions of a thriller genre. one other convention of thriller genre is restricted narration which is shown by restricted shot from the back of the head of woman sitting on the train station. when we see the woman's face the first time the camera slowly shallow focuses on the woman suggesting that she is out protagonist. the story is in non-liner order which tells us more about the character and one of the conventions of thriller genre. one of the shots which i liked was when Jodie Foster and her husband were are sitting in the bench out side and the crow fly pass screeching.

The golden compass

In the beginning of opening sequence of the film 'the golden compass' the titles give away the genre of the film they are written in fairy dust sort of way which suggests that the genre of the film os going to be fantasy. we then hear a voice over which is conventional of thriller genre we follow the story of someone and mostly they start us off with a voice over, this also suggests that they are the protagonist. we then connote what the voice over is saying. one of the USPs of the film could the actors in the film such as Daniel Craig. we see witches and poler bear with
armor on suggesting its a fantasy. the film is called 'the golden compass' and the voice
over was telling the story behind what the current situation is she says "and only one who
can predict" we then cut to the girl suggesting that she is the one who the voice over was
talking about. this fits with todorov's theory and the scene begins with equilibrium where
every thing is fine the children are playing with mud balls. the next stage of the todorov's
theory is also shown when when someone was trying to Poisson lord Astrian. there are
a red herring when Lora and Billy are having a bet the music builds up tension but
suddenly the music drops and everything is back to normal. this is conventional of thriller
genre.

Underworld

when the title 'underworld' came up the screen a noise of something zooming pass by synchronized with each other. one of the conventions in the thriller film is that the camera is always moving even in the shots where we suspect it to be still its still moving for example if the are going to show some one's body they might start the shot with that person's feet moving the camera upwards and ending the shot on the face. this kinds of build tension in the audience. one other convention of the film is a narrator which tells the story most likely to be the protagonist and this opening sequence does just that. the costume of the characters we are following are all dark colored clothing a convention of thriller genre. the location in the opening sequence is a subway showing realism as all of the thriller films have realistic location
this a part of generic conventions.
Transporter
Fonts for the thriller production
§ I think that this could be used for the title of a thriller film especially new modern thriller films such as transporter
§ This might look like font which is most likely to be used in horror film but it could be used for a film with lots of murder.

§ this is one of my favorite one because it related to reality more as a title which looks like graffiti I can see this title being used in a true story based film.

§ This is a unconventional font for a thriller film
because its very sophisticated something which you wouldn't film in a thriller film but I chose this because I think it could be used in a film with posh people or something based on a latter written by some one.

§ this could be used in a supernatural thriller in which the characters discover something from the past and get powers.
§ some of the films are based in the army such
as spy game this font could be used on those kind of film as it looks like an army stamp.

§ This last font is most likely to be used in a old
thriller film or a film with and investigation such
as seven.
G.I joe

The genre of the film is action and some elements of romance. The rating of the film is 13 and PG because of strong sequences of action violence and mayhem throughout. the audience of this film are action loving young aged from 13 to 30. The film was made in USA. The languages are English and French as some parts of the film are made in Paris, France as well as Prague, Czech Republic and los Angeles, America.

G.I. Joe also appeared as a promotional comic book, produced by Marvel Comic was original a cartoon series in 1985 named "good vs. evil". G.I. Joe is the code name for America's highly trained special mission force. the purpose of the force is to defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. in 1987 the make a movie of the cartoon series G.I. Joe but it wasn't a big hit and the audience didn't like it at all. Stephen Sommers has directed a big budget Hollywood action movie based on G.I. Joe. it is said to be cought between X-Men, Transformers and Mission Impossible.

there were several video games adapted for G.I Joe from 1983 to 1992. Now there are new vedio games for wii, xbox 360, ps3 and DS to go with the new Gi joe film rise of the cobra. there are several notacable staes in the fim ne of them is Jonathan Pryce he has done up to 88 films in his life including G. i. Joe. Another noticeable star is Christopher Eccleston, he has done Drama, Documentary, Sci-Fi, Crime drama and other independent films. Another star which is,nt a big strar is young Leo Howard he has done 8 big hits film including drama.

My personal opinion on this film is that its very interesting and makes me go and watch this film because of all the camera angels and the pacing, how its paces together I liked the way that thay have used fade between each shot and image. each shot is very small which makes it more effective. there are props used in the trailer such as the advanced technology for example the advanced suit and the world monuments being destroyed and earth in being in danger.I think that the message of the film is that voilance is bad and the people who truly love each other will meet at the end.
Seven Essay

Se7en Essay

Introduction: the question is ‘what makes a thriller and how is this evident in seven?’, I am going to answer this question by exploring macro elements and in that I am going to analyse micro elements. In my microanalysis I am going to add mise-en-scene in this I am going to analyse costume, light, props, production design and space. I will be analysing cinematography, in this I will be analysing angle, movement of the camera, position of the camera and space around the subject who is in the shot. I will be analysing editing in this I am going to analyse the pacing, SFX (sound effects) and video FX (special effects in video). In sound I am going to analyse diegetic and non-diegetic sound. In macro analysis I am going to analyse the narrative and narrative structure, audience, genre of the film and the representation of the character.

Institutional research: the film seven was released on 5 January 1996 in the (UK). The director of this film was by David Fincher. The film was produced by new line cinema which is a subsidiarie of major Hollywood industry Warner Bros. The film was rated 8.6/10

Audience: I think that the target audience of this film are from 18 to 30 because the film is categorised as '18+' meaning only people over 18 can watch it. Also the people who are interested in a hybrid genre such as horror, crime and psychological which are sub genres of the thriller convention. Male audience might be interested in this film because its horror and mostly male audience watch horror. Female audience might be interested in this film because of the actors such as Brad Pitt. They might be his fans and just want to watch the film just because

Narrative: The film seven uses linear structure. We denote the film going in the order we do not see any flash backs or flash forwards but we hear the characters talking about what happened in the past. We denote that the characters talking about what happened in the past in the interrogation room when they are talking about what happened in the place where lust murder happened. This connoted that the narration of film seven is shown in order.

The todorov’s theory is that every film has an equilibrium this is when every thing in the beginning is normal we denote that detective summerset id shaving and putting his clothes on in the morning to go to work which is normal for him as he goes to work every day, we connote that every thing is fine and it just another day. Then it has a disequilibrium this is when something has gone wrong, then comes the attempt repair this is when the characters are solving what’s going on and then we move new equilibrium this is when every thing is back to normal but not exactly how it was in the beginning.

Narrative: The film seven denotes restricted narration. We denote when the investigation team goes to the antagonist's place but no one there accept from the dead body just like the characters think that the person laying there is dead we as audience think the same, but the person who is laying there is not dead he suddenly takes a deep breath. As audience we don't know that the person is dead or alive.

The film seven uses omniscient narration. This is when the audience see more then what the characters in the film see. Towards the end of the film seven, as Jon Doe and detective mills are having a conversation about detective mills wife we see detective summerset opening a box then we see him running towards detective mills this shows that its something to do with his wife, because the edges of the box were covered in blood we know some thing happed to her wife.

Genre: as the audience of the film we can classify this film as thriller with its sub genres, which are crime horror and psychological. We can say that the film has a crime genre this is when we denote police involved in the murders this connotes that its a crime thriller because there is a scene of investigation. We can also notify this film as a psychological, the audience denote that there is a man who is going around killing people based on seven deadly signs by this we connote that the man is mentally disturbed by that we know the film covers psychological issues. One other sub genre which it covers of thriller is horror we denote that when we see the head of Tracy Miller. As audience we don't actually see the gory and blood coved bodies but we get a sense of what going on. It does not challenge the convention of the thriller genre because there is a sense of investigation, crime, horror and psychological. This also challenges the thriller convention because stereotypically you would find that the thriller convention contains lots of action but the film doesn't accept from one scene when detective miller is following Jon Doe. This is shown by fast pacing and tracking shots.

Representation: the character of detective mills is represented as fiery angry and short tempered person. On every thing he does he is always swearing we denote him swearing at the cameraperson who wanted to take the photos of the crime scene and the investigators but he didn’t want ant photos taken so he started to wear at the cameraperson. He is also shown as a middle class detective because of where he lives. He lives near a sub way so every time a train goes by their whole house moves. Detective summerset is shown as a calm person who doesn’t panic. Whenever he does something he thinks first. We denote him in the office and thinking what they are going to do next where as detective mills is going in circles shouting and thinking what are they going to next and detective summerset is thinking where to go which is better then sitting in their office doing nothing, this shows that he thinks what is going on what happened and he also thinks ahead.

The character for Tray miller is represented as a panicky person who loves her husband but doesn’t like his job and where she lives we denote that they are having dinner together and suddenly the whole house starts to vibrate we see the close up to see her expression she didn’t look happy but the every one started to laugh about it. This connotes that she is a cheerful person but doesn’t like where she lives. We denote her calling detective summerset at night time telling him she wants to see him in the morning when they do she tells him she is pregnant and she was panicking about it.

The character of Jon Doe is represented as a calm person we denote detective summerset saying who ever it is he or she is a very patient person this Connotes that he is a very patient person also we denote the way how talks and acts we know that he is a well educated because as the are reading his profile and detective summerset says who ever it is he is well educated. We denote him wearing bright red orange colour prison clothes which could signify danger

Spy Game

over all as a whole film it was great but in the beginning the film was had lots of enigma codes in one one way you could say that it keep audience interested in the film as it will answer there questions but it had too much of a beginning which came out of no where. the film didn't had any cheep surprises but i think it doesn't need any to be a good thriller. as the story moved forward we under stood what was going on as it filled the gaps with going back words and forwards in time. as a narration it was nonlinear which helped to solve the enigma codes.

The Dark Knight

The dark knight film is a thriller as its shown in its trailer. The choice of dark colours make it more thriller like most if the scene shown in the trailer builds up the tension in the film and throw a hook to the target audience to go and watch the film. The scenes shown in the trailer are at night time. There are series of explosions and weapons showing violence. Also the choice of music builds up tension as it a very slowly paced but the rhythm is very fast. As the music changes the clip changes with it. The voice over creates tension in the trailer as its surrounding like a big empty room.
